Darjeeling Tukdah First Flush TGFOP

The Tukdah Estate is in the high hills below the Himalayas and is one of the shimmering jewels in the Darjeeling crown. The estate is on the banks of the Teesta river valley downstream from Sikkim and this area has a huge amount of rainfall as well as lots of lightning! The actual name Darjeeling means place of lightning. In Hindu mythology, legend has it that a thunderbolt thrown by Lord Indra, king of heaven, struck the ground in the surrounding woods.

The monsoon rains appear during the first flush, a period of peak seasonal quality of a Darjeeling. The rain ensures that the estates soil remains wet for cultivating tea while the hillsides ensure that all roots are kept perfectly drained. Temperatures are cool, much cooler than in the neighbouring growing region of Assam which creates the differentiating brew.

The Darjeeling Tukdah First Flush is bright, fresh and full of flavour with a lovely muscatel character with a hint of nuttiness.
